Poker Face Filming Locations: Episode 2 – “The Night Shift”

Moriarty & Albuquerque, New Mexico • Kingman, Arizona “The Night Shift” drops Charlie Cale right into the kind of place that always pulls me in—a small town along Route 66 with a classic roadside business at its center. I first got interested in Poker Face almost by accident while binge-watching Columbo. When Peacock kept pushing the show—and I saw it described as a modern homage—I gave it a shot. What really hooked me wasn’t just the format, but the locations. After recognizing Laughlin, Nevada in Episode 1, this episode made it official. The setting here—dusty New Mexico, wide open sky, and a vintage service station—felt like stepping into places I’ve…

Poker Face Filming Locations: Episode 1 – Dead Man’s Hand

After deciding to take a chance on Poker Face for its Columbo connection, I immediately found myself drawn in by the very first episode. Set in the Southwest—one of my favorite regions—and in a place I had recently passed through, Laughlin, Nevada, it felt instantly familiar. The classic desert casino atmosphere, the open road, and that sense of freedom you only get in the Southwest all came together in a way that hooked me right away. That was all it took to pull me into the world of Poker Face. Episode Snapshot Episode: Dead Man’s Hand Season: 1 Setting: Frost, Nevada (Frost County) Filming Locations: Laughlin, Nevada & Bullhead City, Arizona Air Date: January 26, 2023 Notable Scenes: Introduction…

Poker Face Filming Locations: Season 1 Road Trip Guide

I first got interested in Poker Face completely by accident. At the time, I was binge-watching Columbo, and while I don’t usually jump into newer shows, Peacock kept featuring Poker Face front and center when it first debuted. What really caught my attention was that it was described as an homage to Columbo—one of those classic, character-driven mysteries I’ve always enjoyed. The main character, Charlie Cale (Natasha Lyonne), isn’t a detective—she’s “not a cop”—but she has a remarkable gift: she can tell when someone is lying, every single time. Her laid-back style, sharp instincts, and subtle mannerisms felt like a modern nod to Columbo himself. So I put on the first episode, “Dead Man’s Hand.” And…

Billy Gambini (Ralph Macchio) and Stan Rothenstein (Mitchell Whitfield) head south to take advantage of warmer weather in January, and while in rural Alabama, they stop at a convenience store to stock up on food for the trip. After Billy inadvertently shoplifts a can of tuna fish, they are stopped by local law enforcement, armed with a shotgun, who orders them out of the car with their hands up. And for…

    The Fugitive Filming Locations

The Plot The Fugitive is an excellent movie starring Harrison Ford as Dr. Richard Kimble, a prominent Chicago vascular surgeon, who comes home one evening to find his wife brutally beaten and shot. Asserting that they are unable to locate the alleged one-armed man, the Chicago Police Dept. builds a solid case against Dr. Kimble; he is brought to trial and convicted. My Cannonball Fugitive – A Trip 8 Years in the Making

For those couple of you who follow my blog, we sometimes incorporate photographing movie filming locations into our road trips. We first researched the filming locations for My Cousin Vinny in the fall of 2008. We had decided (as we regularly do), that it was a great movie to watch for some laughs. But of course, instead of watching the movie like normal people, on this evening, our curiosity was piqued and we ended up breaking out the laptops to start researching filming locations and continually pausing the movie. At the time, there wasn’t alot of info on the Internet, but we did have satellite images and maps available, as well as the…

    Easy Rider Filming Locations

Opening Credits The opening credits actually contain all of the filming locations that we currently have (we don’t have them all at this point). This will be a work in progress as we travel. Here is a video of the opening credits to set the proper mood, as well as the context of the scene, which we love, with Steppenwolf’s “Born to be Wild.” Classic. Interstate 40 East, Crossing the Colorado River at the California/Arizona Border This scene was filmed along I-40 eastbound, crossing from California into Arizona. Two bridges, which are former alignments of Route 66 are also visible. The first bridge to the right, is the Red Rock…

Ferris Bueller’s Day Off Filming Locations

Glenbrook North High School – 2300 Shermer Road, Northbrook, Illinois In this scene, Ferris Bueller’s (Matthew Broderick) girlfriend Sloan (Mia Sara) is escorted outside by Principal Ed Rooney (Jeffrey Jones) to wait for her “father” to pick her up from school after the death of her grandmother. Of course, it’s a scheme to get her out of school to meet Ferris and his best friend Cameron (Alan Ruck) for a day off! “Oh Sloan dear…hurry along now!” SAVE FERRIS – Water Tower – Northbrook, Illinois Word around town spreads quickly of Ferris’ major “illness”, prompting the painting of this water tower to help the community rally around this sick youth. Mystic Pizza Filming Locations

This was probably the most fun we’ve had doing movie filming locations. I (Jennifer) grew up in Connecticut, in the west-central part of the state, but southeast Connecticut (especially Mystic) and the Rhode Island shoreline, have always been a special place to visit. I’d been going there ever since I was a teenager, and took my daughter when she was a little girl. I’m looking forward to taking my grandson some day! We’d had Mystic Pizza many times, and at the time when it was a tiny pizza parlor as it was in “Mystic Pizza.” After the movie came out, but prior to the restaurant’s expansion and renovation, I was…
