    August 2004: Atlanta, Georgia

Pat and I made this trip to Atlanta, Georgia so that I could have surgery with Dr. Ken Sinervo of the Center for Endometriosis Care. Though the nature of the trip was for that purpose, I didn’t see why we couldn’t try to have some fun while we were there. Even though Pat was determined not to have any fun, he did admit the first few days were fun, and would like to go back there sometime! This page concerns the trip unrelated specifically to the surgery. My story relating to my battle with endometriosis, including the surgery, is available at this link. The Smithsonian Institution – Washington, D.C.

On our way back to Indiana from Connecticut, we decided to go by way of Washington, DC. I wanted to stop at the Smithsonian and see the “America on the Move” Exhibit which actually contained a portion of U.S. 66 pavement from Oklahoma. The traffic from Connecticut to Washington DC was horrendous, but once we got there, everything was fine and I even managed to get a parking spot not too far from the museum. March 2004: New York, NY

We’re back visiting our family in Connecticut during Amber’s spring break, so I decided to take Amber and her friend Meaghan to New York City for two days. It was cold and dreary, but no precipitation the first day. We first had lunch at Junior’s in Brooklyn, where we had way too much food – but what we had was great. Of course, I washed it down with a chocolate egg cream (the real deal – made with Fox’s U-Bet syrup, thank you very much!). We barely had room for dessert, but not having a slice of cheesecake from Junior’s simply isn’t an option. I had a slice of Chocolate…

    October 2003: Missouri Route 66 & Illinois U.S. 40

Amber and I decided to take a weekend trip and head to St. Louis, Missouri to visit Six Flags. When we lived back east, we always enjoyed going to Six Flags’ Great Adventure, particularly during Fright Fest. So we thought we’d try it here. Unfortunately, we got rained out, so we opted to do other things instead. We did a little 66’ing and visited the Riverside Reptile Ranch. Leo the Lion grew much bigger and we got to hold snakes and alligators!  yech We also went to the Museum of Transport in St. Louis, which was really cool. They have an outdoor exhibit on trains (which we passed on due…

Honeymoon on Route 66: Our Love Story on America’s Mother Road

Route 66 has brought countless travelers adventure, nostalgia, and unforgettable memories. For us, it did something even more special. Route 66 brought us together. In June 2002, we set out on a 10-day honeymoon journey along the legendary Mother Road, traveling from the Midwest across the Southwest and back again. Along the way we visited classic diners, historic motels, neon signs, trading posts, museums, and many of the people who keep Route 66 history alive. But the story of this honeymoon actually began many years earlier. A Love Story Born on the Mother Road Our honeymoon on Route 66 wasn’t just a road trip — it was the continuation of…
