In "real life" my name is Pat Bremer, Corvair owner and fan of 2 lane highways. Credit for the name "Road Maven" goes to my fellow Corvair compatriot, Pete Lapitsky. I was leading a pack of Corvairs in southern Indiana in October of 2000 on Indiana State Road 58. When we reached our lunch stop in Bedford, Indiana, Pete was so enamored with the challenge of this road that he anointed me "The Road Maven" right there in the parking lot of the Golden Corral. From that point the nickname stuck, as I have found more highways of the 2 lane variety that are perfect for not only Corvair owners, but for anyone who gets bored with the "super slabs" (interstate highways). The only thing interstates do is get you from Point A to Point B (if I may quote Charles Kuralt) "without seeing a thing."

So the next time you plan to take a road trip, do yourself a favor and take a US highway instead of an interstate highway. Eat at a "greasy spoon" diner or cafe instead of a franchise fast food chain. Sleep at a mom & pop motel instead of a cookie-cutter hotel. Stop at the roadside attraction.....the reptile zoo, the curio shops selling plastic tomahawks, gaudy jewelry, and pecan logs. Stop at the local dairy bar for a shake made from hand-dipped ice cream.

This is what my website is about. It honors the great American road trip, the great American automobile, and honors the way things used to be. Enjoy the ride!
